Nowadays, burgers come in all different shapes, sizes, and with all sorts of ingredients squeezed in between bread. We want to bring it back to basics with this recipe. So we decided to make a Simple Beyond Burger that is easy yet incredibly delicious.
I'm an advocate of making food from scratch and whenever I can, I do. But sometimes pre-made or packaged food can be the way we want to go to make things a bit easier and more practical.
I made burgers for a barbecue we were having with a bunch of our friends. I had vegan and non-vegan people to feed so I had to be strategic. For that reason, I decide to make this recipe using Beyond burger patties.
I know well that fake meat can be somewhat controversial and I agree there are way too many ingredients in them. I, personally use this kind of products occasionally and I see them more like a treat than an every-day deal.
Also, Beyond burger and similar brands do a great job at making products that really resemble the actual taste and texture of meat. I think this is a great way to get non-vegans to explore the beauties of the vegan world. It is not ideal, but hopefully this encourages them to eat vegan meals more often.
Plant-based burgers are becoming more and more popular, which makes them a lot easier to find. Back in the day, we could only find these products in specialty stores. Sometimes it was quite a journey to get ahold of them. So, is great to see that supermarkets now carry a lot of options and that vegan isles keep getting bigger.
This makes our life so much easier and that's what we are all about! And to stay on the easy simple life, let me tell you a bit more about this recipe. You won't have to scramble to find ingredients nor spend long hours in the kitchen preparing what goes on them.
The onions are the only ingredient that needs a bit of cooking. I'm not a big fan of raw onions so I always do burgers with grilled onions. You need a bit of olive oil, let it heat up enough so the onions don't just absorb it, and grill them for 5 minutes or until they are soft, golden brown and smell amazing!
I like to toast the bread on the same pan I used to cook the onions. The bread will get some hints of flavour of the onions. You can always use the toaster or an oven but this method adds a touch of flavour that you will appreciate when you are bitting into your burgers.
The rest is easy. Fry the Beyond Burgers on each side for 3 to 5 minutes, place it on a bun and stack the rest of the ingredients on it. And if the day is nice, you can always take this recipe to the barbecue and enjoy your meal with a bit of sunshine!
